7/10 : Impact Africa in Los Angeles

“I believe in what Afam is doing. Here is a little story that really moved me.  When I played USA bball we played teams from  all across the Country and it astounded me how much more we had that we take for granted in the states. We played some teams from Afica  and they were wanting my USA bball shorts which we receive as many as we liked. I gave mine away and one post player from south Africa (6’5″ too) gave me her very own HAND made beautiful dress. I never forgot that moment and I barely could accept. All I was thinking was the number of hours it took to make her gorgeous colorful dress vs. my factory made mass produced commercialistic USA basketball shorts. What we value and what we see is all contextual and based on social norms and experiences. I was very moved and put a tremendous perspective in what  is most important in life beyond material things.”

Carolyn will be attending the Impact Africa Event – hosted by Forest Whitaker, Ronnie Lott, Warren Moon, Calais Campbell and Marcellus Wiley
